save the dates.
Is it okay not to have them?
Believe it or not Loverboy and I were talking about this topic.
Nevermind we're not engaged. Let alone do we have a wedding date.
But he caught me looking at Off Beat Bride and somehow that became our topic.
He knows I want to make all the paper stuff.
With my love of design and all things wonderful ... it just makes sense.
Then Loverboy said he just doesn't understand the concept of save the dates.
I explained to him their purpose, and he said, "well, yeah, that makes sense I guess."
Which means it doesn't make sense.

Then I got to thinking - maybe we won't need them.

But I just can't help but think about the cool possibilities we'll be missing out on by not having them. Such as:

They're post cards! And they look like music posters! And the back lends then to a cute little personalized message!

Fortune Cookies!!! In a little jewelry box!!! and the fortune asks the guests to "save the date" and has the details. Clever. Clever clever clever.

Fabric save the dates? Wow. Cute. I really, really, really like these! Except I really don't like the idea of a hankie ... so I think I would try to discourage them being used that way. You know ... "Please! Every time you blow your nose - remember to save the date of my wedding!" Gross.

We could always take a fun and creative picture ... like that one ... and put it on say ... a magnet ... a mug ... a post card ... a hankie? Ha.

My point, of course, is that there are so many cute ideas for a save the date. And I think I'm going to have a hard time accepting not sending out something that says "Hey! We're in love! And we're getting married! You better plan on one thing for this date! Our wedding, duh!" But I guess it can just be accomplished by word-of-mouth. And it is an additional cost. But ... but ... I don't know where I stand on this.

  1. i think if you're going to have a lot of out of town guests or it's on a holiday weekend, you don't necessarily need a save the date. they're nice though. lol.

since about half of our proposed guest list will need to make travel arrangements, i'm prepared to send out stds. that said, if you're concerned about costs, you can look for coupon codes for vistaprint. i saw one some time ago for free postcards; you just pay shipping. it's worth a gander!

  2. Ya Save the Dates are overrated. Oh and no one we sent them to seems to have saved the date...or put it on their calendar...or did anything with it...so ya I like your other ideas...or none at all...I am with Loverboy on this one! :)

  3. I think you can do either, have them or not and its totally fine. The Big Guy and I decided to have them b/c a lot fo our guests are out of town and we arent ready to send invites yet so we wanted to let everyone know but my bff didnt send them plenty of people showed up to her wedding too ... so its really your call.

Wow, could I have been any less helpful? I will try harder next time :)

  5. Love them and really want to do make them but I can't decide whether it is worth it either.

Hmm, with less than 50 guests to invite (probably) maybe the gocco will get a another outing!

Do love the fortune cookies though!
